Yvtarr (pronounced Yit-Varr) is a formidable and awe-inspiring deity, embodying the untamed power of the seas, the destructive force of nature, and the raw unbridled rage. His appearance is both majestic and intimidating, a reflection of his dominion over chaos and the ocean's depths.

Appearance

Yvtarr stands at an imposing six feet and three inches. His physique is a harmonious blend of strength and agility, characterized by a mesomorphic and lean build.

His upper body remains uncovered, showcasing a torso marked by intricate blue patterns that span his chest and back. These markings form elegant, almost tribal-like designs, stopping just shy of his collar bone. They pulse faintly, as though imbued with the same energy that governs the seas he rules. The markings are not merely decorative; they symbolize his connection to the ocean and his divine power, seeming to shimmer in low light like reflections on water.

Around his neck and wrists, Yvtarr wears golden jewelry that glints in the sun's rays or the moon's glow. The pieces are crafted from materials that seem ancient, yet unyielding to the passage of time, hinting at their divine origin. Each adornment features intricate engravings of marine life, waves, and storms.

His lower attire is simple yet striking. He dons loose, baggy black sweatpants that grant him freedom of movement, essential for both combat and his commanding presence. Over the pants, a deep blue cloth is strapped around his waist, cascading down the front like a ceremonial sash. The cloth is secured with an ornate knot, its edges embroidered with golden patterns resembling crashing waves.

Yvtarr's choice to remain barefoot reflects his intimate connection to the natural world, unbound by mortal constraints or armor. His bare feet seem impervious to the elements, as if nature itself bends to his will, sparing him from harm.

A key feature that solidifies his divine nature is his hair. Normally a light, flowing blue, it flickers into an inextinguishable flame of the same hue when he is enraged or in combat. This ethereal fire crackles and dances, defying natural laws as it burns with a cold intensity even in the deepest of waters. In these moments, his eyes glow bright blue to further intensify his fearsome visage.

In his true form, Yvtarr's size is unfathomable. He stands taller than any mountain, with his presence casting an enormous shadow that stretches across the ocean's surface. His massive, muscular body is coated in thick, scale-like armor that glistens with a deep, almost black blue hue. These scales shimmer as though they are made from the darkest of ocean depths, reflective yet impenetrable, with jagged edges that resemble the sharpness of coral reefs.

Yvtarr's face is terrifying. His eyes are massive, glowing orbs of piercing blue light that burn with the intensity of the sun itself. Beneath his eyes, his skin stretches outward, forming long, thick, almost tentacle-like tendrils that hang from his chin, each one snaking out and writhing in the water. His mouth is filled with rows of jagged, razor-sharp teeth.

From his back and sides sprout enormous, muscular fins that radiate an ethereal glow. His arms are massive and powerful, the muscles bulging with immense strength, each one larger than a ship's hull. His fingers are tipped with claws that could easily tear through metal, while his massive hands are capable of snaring entire vessels.

At the base of his torso, a long, coiled tail extends, thick and powerful, the scales running down its length and tapering into a fin-like structure. The tail is a weapon in itself.

Personality

Yvtarr's personality is as turbulent and unpredictable as the ocean he commands. At his core, he embodies both the creative and destructive aspects of nature, making him a god of immense contrasts. When provoked or enraged, he transforms into a force of unrelenting destruction, unleashing the fury of hurricanes, tsunamis, and deep-sea whirlpools. In these moments, he channels his anger into obliterating anything that stands in his way or defies his will. His rage is legendary, and his enemies tremble at the mere thought of facing his wrath. For them, the oceans become a harbinger of doom, and the very sea seems to rise in rebellion against them.

Yet, outside of his rage, Yvtarr is a figure of stoic calm and regal authority. He exudes a quiet, composed strength that demands respect, standing tall and unwavering in his beliefs. Deeply proud, he refuses to bow to anyone, not even other gods. His pride is not born of vanity but of his steadfast sense of duty as the protector of the seas. He believes in his role as a guardian of the natural world, and this conviction guides all of his actions. His presence alone is enough to inspire both awe and reverence, for those who encounter him know that he is a god whose authority is not be questioned.

Despite his fearsome reputation, Yvtarr harbors a deep sense of loyalty and responsibility toward the ocean and its myriad of creatures. As a protector and caretaker of marine life, he ensures that balance is maintained within the vast, ever-changing realm of the seas. He is a champion of the natural order, fiercely guarding it against any force, divine or mortal, that threatens to disrupt the harmony of the oceans. For those who honor and care for the sea, Yvtarr is a benefactor, bestowing upon them in the form of calm waters and bountiful harvests. His affection for the ocean's creatures is evident, as he nurtures and defends them with the same fervor that he brings to his destructive pursuits.

However, Yvtarr is also impartial and unforgiving in his judgement. He holds all beings—mortals and gods alike—accountable to the same standard of respect and reverence for the seas. While he is not inherently cruel, he is unyielding when it comes to arrogance, greed, or actions that harm the ocean. Those who betray his trust or break their promises to him earn his eternal scorn. There is no mercy for those who disrespect the sea, and Yvtarr's wrath, once unleashed, knows no bounds. His divine sense of justice is as relentless as the tides themselves, leaving no room for forgiveness when it comes to the sanctity of his domain.

Divine Realm

Siren's Cove;

The divine realm of Yvtarr, is a magnificent domain that perfectly encapsulates the duality of beauty and raw power. It stretches north of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, perched at the boundary between mortal lands and the divine. Siren's Cove is a supersized tropical paradise—a single sprawling island surrounded by an endless, pristine ocean that glistens like liquid sapphire under an eternal, sunlit sky.

Geography;

The coastline is marked by jagged cliffs, their towering heights carved by years of roaring waves. These cliffs are adorned with clusters of flowing marine crystals, whose luminescence intensifies as night falls, casting an ethereal light across the island. Waterfalls cascade from the cliffs into tranquil lagoons below, their mists forming shimmering rainbows that arch into the heavens.

Lush rainforests dominate the island's interior, teeming with exotic flora that glows faintly in the moonlight. Towering trees with blue-tinted leaves stretch skyward, their roots weaving intricate patters through the soil and streams. Hidden within the undergrowth are plants unique to this realm—some with leaves as sharp as blades and others that hum softly, resonating with the rhythm of the ocean.

Ocean Surroundings;

The ocean surrounding Siren's Cove is vast, stretching infinitely and seemingly alive, mirroring Yvtarr's moods. When calm, the waters are serene and inviting, reflecting the heavens in perfect clarity. However, in moments of Yvtarr's wrath, the ocean shifts violently, waves surging to unimaginable heights, and the waters turn a deep, flowing blue radiating the god's rage. Beneath the surface lies a world of endless wonder: intricate coral reefs sprawling for miles, underwater caverns shimmering with light, and bioluminescent sea creatures gliding gracefully through the depths.

Inhabitants;

Siren's Cove is home to a diverse array of creatures, many of which are Yvtarr's own creations. These beings range from elegant, harmonious lifeforms to powerful, monstrous entities that embody destruction.

  • Humans; The basic humans. Their appearances can vary from person to person. Coming in different sizes, colors, and features.
  • Merfolk; Merfolk are similar to humans in appearances. Coming in different sizes, colors, and features. However, the biggest difference are their aquatic tails for maneuverability in the sea.
  • Elemental Spirits; Manifestations of water and air, these glowing, semi-transparent beings flit through the rainforests and coasts, guarding sacred sites and Yvtarr's treasure.
  • Goblins; They're very similar to ordinary humans, but are short and childlike with green skin and sharp canin teeth. Their average height is around 150 centimeters.
  • Orcs; Orcs are typically a race that won't attack those stronger than themselves. Bursting with life, renowned for their high reproductive abilities but relatively low intelligence.
  • Hunter Wolves; Hunter Wolves are a species of beats that live in Siren Cove. Larger than a normal wolf and at the top of the food chain.
  • Slimes; Slimes are typically creatures without any form of higher intelligence that only eat and regenerate. They also usually never leave their territories.
  • Oni/Ogre; Oni/Ogres are a race of humanoid beings identified by one or two horns sprouting from their forehead. Usually stronger than Hunter Wolves, but lose that battle due to lack of numbers.
  • Sea Life; Consists of Monk Seals, Angel Fish, Blennyfish, Butterfly Fish, Moray Eels, Shrimp, Crab, Sharks, Sea Lions, Sea Horses, Whales, Orcas, Dolphins, Sea Otters, Manta Rays, Jellyfish, Octupus' and Squids.
  • Sky Life; Consists of Aeo Birds and Nene Birds.

Culture and Religion

The worshippers of Yvtarr collectively follow a religion known as the Tide of Wrath, rooted in reverence for the God of Seas, Destruction, and Rage. This faith emphasizes the duality of the sea—its nurturing beauty and its devastating fury—mirroring the temperament of their deity. Yvtarr's followers believe that by embracing the god's chaotic essence, they may gain his favor and channel his boundless strength.

Pre-War;

Core Beliefs:

  • Balance through Chaos; Yvtarr represents the natural balance found within destruction and creation. His followers see destruction as a precursor to renewal and believe chaos is necessary for true transformation
  • The Sea as a Living Entity; The sea is Yvtarr's flesh, and its tides reflect his moods. Storms are his anger, calm waters his fleeting mercy.
  • Wrath as Strength; Rage, when harnessed, is considered a sacred force. It is believed that Yvtarr grants divine rage to his devout, empowering them with strength in battle and resilience against adversity.
  • Sacrifice to the Depths; Offerings—often treasure, crafted goods, or even blood are given to the sea to appease Yvtarr or seek his blessings.

The Temple of Yvtarr

Far out in the vast sea lies the Temple of Yvtarr, a gargantuan structure of obsidian-like stone encrusted with coral and glowing sea crystals. This temple holds the Portal to the Realm of Destruction, Yvtarr's resting place. Access to this sacred space is forbidden to all but the most devout or the desperate. Potnus, the First Avatar, a massive kraken with uncountable glowing eyes and tentacles, guards the temple. It tests the worthiness of those who approach, allowing only the brave and determined to proceed while annihilating the unworthy. The Temple serves as a pilgrimage site where followers journey to leave offerings, seek visions, or request Yvtarr's wrath to smite their enemies. Many pilgrims never return, consumed by the trials or by Potnus himself.

Cultural Practices

Society;

Yvtarr's mortal followers—comprising humans, mermaids, and various monstrous beings such as orcs, ogres, and hunter wolves—live in a realm of stunning natural beauty. A single expansive landmass is surrounded by the endless sea, with jagged cliffs, shimmering forests, and cascading waterfalls. The inhabitants are united by their faith, though divided into Coastal Tribes and Sea Clans.

  • Coastal Tribes; These are settlements built along the shores and cliffs. They focus on fishing, shipbuilding, and maintaining sacred sites dedicated to Yvtarr. Humans and merfolk often form the leadership, given their innate connection to the sea.
  • Sea Clans; Nomadic communities of merfolk, slimes, and other aquatic creatures that thrive beneath the waves. These clans act as guardians of the sea and often seek to enforce Yvtarr's will against trespassers.

Rituals

  • Rage Baptism; Newborns are bathed in seawater and blessed with a drop of blood from their parents to symbolize their bond with Yvtarr's power.
  • Storm Fests; On stormy nights, followers gather on cliffside altars to sing hymns, offer sacrifices, and channel their collective rage to "dance with the storm."
  • Trials of the Tide; Adolescents undergo dangerous rites of passage, such as retrieving a glowing shard from Potnus' territory or braving the Fury Abyss (a violent whirlpool thought to be Yvtarr's eye.)

Art and Music

Art is heavily inspired by the sea's ever-changing moods. Sculptures depict Yvtarr as a towering, humanoid figure with kraken-like limbs, while murals showcase dramatic battles between mortals and titanic sea creatures. Songs are sung in guttural chants and haunting melodies, often accompanied by drums made of whale bone and shells.

Conflict and Expansion

Yvtarr's worshippers believe the beauty of their land is a divine gift, but the sea's wrath is a reminder to never grow complacent. Thus, they frequently raid neighboring regions, believing their victories are sanctioned by their god. Warriors paint themselves with luminescent, temporary tattoos made of crushed sea minerals, invoking Yvtarr's blessing in battle

The Sacred Laws and Their Fall

Long ago, Yvtarr declared two sacred laws:

  1. The Pact of Unity: Humans and merfolk must never harm each other, for they are twin creations of the sea and equally beloved by Yvtarr.
  2. The Balance of Greed: Mortals may take from the sea only what they need to survive, lest they awaken thy wrath.

These laws were delivered in Yvtarr's final appearance before his followers, marking his departure into the Realm of Destruction. Since his disappearance, however, the Pact of Unity has been broken.

The Great Schism: War Between Humans and Merfolk

Without Yvtarr's guidance and wrath to enforce his will, humans grew greedy and violent. They began overharvesting the sea, claiming resources that once sustained both land and sea-dwelling peoples. The merfolk, guardians of the sea's sanctity, retaliated, sparking a bloody war.

Humans, driven by ambition and the promise of greater prosperity, see the sea as an untapped source of endless bounty. Many justify breaking the sacred laws, believing Yvtarr's absence signifies their right to dominate. Costal tribes have fortified their settlements and now wage war against merfolk raiding parties.

To the merfolk, the humans' greed is a desecration of Yvtarr's sacred realm. They see themselves as the true heirs of the sea and have taken up arms to defend it, launching devastating counterattacks against human fleets and coastal towns. Some merfolk whisper of a prophecy that only through unrelenting wrath can Yvtarr be summoned back to restore order.

Warrior Rituals

  1. Blood of the Tide; Warriors from both sides perform this ritual before battle, anointing themselves with seawater and blood to seek Yvtarr's fury.
  2. Storm Forging; Humans craft weapons by forging them under raging storms, believing the process infuses them with Yvtarr's fury.
  3. Songs of the Abyss; Merfolk sing haunting hymns beneath the waves, said to summon sea monsters to aid them in battle.

Sacred Sites

  1. The Eternal Cascade - A massive, unending waterfall at the heart of the island, said to connect the realm directly to Yggdrasil. Its waters are imbued with divine energy and can heal wounds or grant visions to those deemed worthy.
  2. The Abyssal Trench - A deep chasm at the ocean's edge, rumored to be the gateway to Yvtarr's true form's dwelling. It is guarded by the most fearsome of his creations, and its depths remain unexplored by even the bravest gods.
  3. The Singing Lagoon - A secluded lagoon where the waters hum with an enchanting melody. It is said that Yvtarr himself often appears here, his presence felt in the ripples of the water.
  4. Fury Abyss - A massive whirlpool far out into the ocean on the south side of the island. This whirlpool is rumored to be Yvtarr's eye.
